Before we go further, we first need to clarify what an air washer is. An air washer is a specialist 2-in-1 cleaning solution designed – as the name suggests – to clean the air in your home. The unique cleansing solution takes in your property’s air and helps cleanse it to remove impurities and pollution; all the while, it simultaneously helps moisten and humidify the air thanks to the in-built humidifier function. 
 

As such, an air washer is a highly effective solution to help clean and look after the air in your home. However, it’s crucial to consider that air washers cannot always provide a 100% cleaning solution. Nevertheless, it’s still a valuable option to consider if you have been looking for a reliable option to clean the air in a property. 

Many people make the assumption that an air washer is just a typical air purifier with extra water added in. However, this is not the case since air purifiers provide a far more complex solution than just adding a little water vapor to your property’s air.
 

While they are similar to this, an air purifier works to capture particles, pollution, and the like and remove them from the air through a series of purification and filtration processes. However, during this process, the air washer also humidifies the air that comes in, allowing the expelled air to be slightly less dry than when it entered the humidifier. In turn, regular use can allow your air washer to not only remove a large amount of contamination from your air but also make the room more comfortable if it has been feeling dry.

An air washer differs from an air purifier thanks to its unique humidifying nature. This ensures that the expelled air is clean, free from contamination, and moistened, making the room potentially more comfortable to live and work in.
 

As such, it’s unsurprising that a growing number of people are choosing an air washer for their homes or commercial properties, making this a valuable investment to make for your business’s collection.

Both air washers and air humidifiers help add moisture to dry, uncomfortable air. However, they do this in very different ways. It is important to note here that both air washers and air humidifiers have the potential to clean the air; for example, a warm mist humidifier boils water into steam, which is an effective way to remove a large amount of the potential pathogens on the air.
 

Air washers take things a step further. They don’t provide the same level of humidifying as a dedicated humidifier, usually. However, air washers are nevertheless effective for adding a little extra moisture to a dry room while simultaneously filtering out and trapping pollutants and contaminants from the air – making them a 2-in-1 solution. 

An air washer is actually a surprisingly simple device, although the specific mechanisms of how they work are much more complex. During the air washing process, contaminated, polluted, or dry air is taken into the device through suction; then, the air washer uses a basic evaporation process to collect contaminants from the air and separate them.
 

The air passes over several metal plates and absorbs water particles simultaneously; this helps humidify the air while also removing any nasty contaminants. As such, at the end of the process, the purified air is released back into the property – taking some of the water droplets with it – and the process repeats for the next suction of air.
 

There are numerous different air washers on the market, and these all work a little differently. Some, for example, offer even greater levels of purification by first passing the air through an incredibly fine mesh filter. This increases the potential purification potential for the air washer, which could make it a good option to consider for properties in highly polluted regions.

Firstly, we need to clarify whether (or not) an ultrasonic humidifier is necessary in your home. Overall, there is no requirement to invest in a humidifier in your home since this comes down to personal choice. 
 

Many people and homes may not even need a humidifier (for example, if they live in an already-humid region). However, if the air in your home is usually dry, you may want to invest in a humidifier to help make your home more comfortable. Once you’ve invested in the humidifier, you may notice that your home becomes significantly more comfortable overall.
 

However, if your home is already comfortable and the air in your home is not dry, you won’t need to invest in humidifier technology for your home. Humidifiers are mainly valuable in scenarios when your home has dry air; as such, if the air does not feel dry, you may not necessarily benefit from having a humidifier.

Generally speaking, an ultrasonic humidifier is very safe to use. However, it’s important to consider that an ultrasonic humidifier can increase your property’s moisture level to excessively high. 
 

In turn, this could put your furniture at risk of slight water damage. In addition, if you don’t ensure your home has plenty of good airflow, you may find that your ultrasonic humidifier increases the risk of mold spores breaking out on the property or your furniture.

In most cases, tap water will be fine with your humidifier in an emergency. This fact is since tap water is specifically designed with your health in mind, and water companies treat it very rigorously to remove contamination. And, if you run out of distilled water on a hot day, sometimes, reaching for tap water in an emergency may be another option.

 

While tap water likely won’t hurt your humidifier once or twice, in the long run, the minerals could impact your humidifier’s performance. Furthermore, depending on the condition of your property’s pipes, there’s a slight chance of your tap water containing pathogens or contamination picked up from the piping. As such, opting for distilled water that’s guaranteed pure instead is often the best way to refresh your home.

Can an essential oil diffuser work as an alternative to a humidifier? It might seem like the answer should be an obvious no, but this isn’t wholly true. Indeed, technically speaking, an essential oil diffuser could work as a small humidifier. Essential oil diffusers work similarly to a humidifier, releasing very small amounts of evaporated essential oils into your room. Along the same line of thought, you could also use them to release a small amount of water vapor into your room to increase the humidity.

 

At this point, we’ve clarified that yes – you can technically use an essential oil diffuser as a small humidifier. However, the word “small” is especially critical here since, in many cases, it’s easy to overlook how little humidity an essential oil diffuser can provide. Since essential oil diffusers are only designed to release a very sparse amount of essential oils into your home at one time, they will do the same with pure water. As such, while they may add a little extra moisture to the air, especially on a hot day, their value for a large space is likely limited. Ideally, you should only rely on them for a tiny space, such as a box room or a cupboard; moreover, putting them in the middle of the room may help increase their ability to cool you down.

There’s a lot to love about using a humidifier – however, many people find themselves wondering whether they could just recreate the same effect at home by boiling a pan of water. Unfortunately, the results with this could be highly variable.

 

Boiling a pan of water may well add a little extra moisture to your property’s air. However, doing so comes with three notable drawbacks:

 

1) It’s hard to control the level of humidity in your home

2) Boiling or heating a pan of water comes with expensive energy costs

3) If you love the scent of pure essential oils, this can be hard to recreate simply by boiling water

 

As such, if you have been looking to enjoy the full benefits of a humidifier, the original is still the best option to go for. That aside, boiling a pan of water may also increase the temperature in your room, rather than cooling things down, making it less effective for controlling environmental temperatures.

Ultrasonic humidifiers are just one of the many types of humidifiers on the market; other options include evaporating humidifiers and warm mist humidifiers. However, ultrasonic humidifiers work through incredibly rapid vibrations, which help generate a gentle mist within your property. 
 

In order for the humidifier to work effectively, the reservoir or tank must be kept filled to ensure that there is plenty of water available; you may need to top this up periodically to ensure a steady flow of mist from the device.

There is no set rule of thumb as to how much electricity humidifiers use, as this depends on factors such as the type of humidifier, how long you run it, etc.
 

Most notably, the amount of electricity used depends on the type of humidifier you have, the size and power of it and how often it is run. Larger humidifiers that are left on for longer periods of time will naturally use much more energy than smaller models.
 

It’s also worth noting that evaporating or ultrasonic humidifiers typically use considerably less energy than warm mist humidifiers. This is because the latter must first heat the water to boiling point to get it to turn into steam. As a result of this, energy usage for warm mist humidifiers can be up to 136% more than for cool mist humidifiers.
